After graduating in 1984 with a Bachelor’s in Political Science, he moved right into government work. His first government job was working for United States Congressman Bob Matsui. He quickly rose to Matsui’s Chief of Staff, officially taking the position in 1988. In 1993, he took his talents from Capitol Hill to the White House, where he took a position at the U.S. Department of Transportation. President Bill Clinton appointed him as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Government Affairs for DOT, and not long after received an award as the top Asian American appointee. President Clinton formally recognized him with the award at a White House Ceremony the same year he joined DOT. He received this honor thanks to his hard-working and dedicated nature, especially in the field of politics. Clinton quickly recognized his talent, which opened doors to his time in the White House where he grew more familiar with Presidential politics, how the executive branch actually works and the effects of bureaucracy on politics, both presidential and business related. He is held in high regard with the Indian American community as well, mostly due to his position within the political scene at a national level.
After years at the White House, he shifted his career into the private sector. His first job outside of the White House was at the American Academy of Actuaries, which he joined in 1995. At this DC-based job with more than 18,000 members, including corporate executives, government officials, retired actuaries, consultants, regulators and academics, he became the Director of Media and Public Affairs. He moved on to his next job, Senior Vice President of Hill & Knowles International Public Relations, in 1998 and stayed until 2004. During his tenure with the governmental and lobbying affairs firm, he was able to help them earn “Agency of the Year” all six years. The international consulting firm had close to 90 offices throughout 49 countries around the world. He spent his time there managing a strong policy staff, as well as directing regular communications between his firm and the U.S. Congress and the White House.

Using History to Predict the Future
His latest political prediction made the news in 2014, where he made an unpopular prediction that the Republican Party would strengthen its majority within the House of Representatives and completely retake control of the U.S. Senate during the 2014 midterm elections. He made his prediction six months before the elections took place, but he stood firm on his prediction after citing President Obama’s below-average approval rating and other recent history. He also went on to say the President’s opposition party would most likely see a boost within the legislative branch, specifically during Obama’s second presidency term.
